MISSION
The Department of Pathology at Georgetown University Hospital is a comprehensive diagnostic laboratory committed to excellence in patient care, medical education and research.

Patient Care
Both the Anatomic and Clinical pathology faculty are comprised of dedicated and skilled physicians and scientists. Anatomic services include general surgical pathology, cytopathology, renal and transplant pathology and the post mortem examination. Clinical services include transfusion medicine, microbiology, hematopathology, molecular diagnostics and general clinical chemistry. Patient care values include reliability, professionalism and respect.

Medical Education
Faculty and staff play a vital role in the education of our residents and students. Our ACGME accredited, competency-based, Anatomic and Clinical pathology program is intended to train competent diagnostic pathologists. Similarly, as third and fourth year medical students rotate, they are provided with a solid foundation in surgical and clinical diagnostics principles. Educational values include inquiry, involvement and innovation.

Research
The research mission of the department is focused on basic science and clinical investigation as it pertains to improving the diagnosis of human disease and care of the patient. Research interests include the human papilloma virus and vaccine development, molecular diagnosis of hematopoietic diseases and renal transplantation. Research values include accuracy, application and advancement.
